In the article "Highlight of the Night" by ESPN, the heroic win by the New York Yankees gives them the chance to the down the Baltimore Orioles for the postseason. The Orioles have had a pretty surprising year that has led them to their first playoff apearance since 1997 and are eager to win the pennant. After defeating the Yankees and tying the series 1-1, on wednesday, karma happened on the diamond. The Yankees were trailing the Orioles 1-2 since the fifth inning and had one more inning to fight back. After one out, the Yankee's head coach Joe Girardi made the risky decision to take out their all-star Alex Rodrigez was slumping. After hearing about his decision, Alex said to Coach Girardi, "You gotta do exactly what you gotta do." Raul Ibanez was put in the superstars place and had big expectations. With no runners on, Raul blasted a solo home run to right field. The crowd roared as the ball was caught in a fans hand and they headed to extra innings. Scoreless through 3 innings, Raul Ibanez was called up to the plate again, and blasted a game winner to right field. He had won the game for the Yankees! Because of Ibanez's courage and believing in himself he was able to set the Yankees ahead of the Orioles in the series 2-1.
In the article "Highlight of the Night" by ESPN, the heroics of Raul Ibanez shocked many baseball fans across the nation. He batted twice and hit two home runs, both of them in clutch moments that I do not think I would be able to cope with. Coach Girardi's decision to pinch-hit his all-star for a decent player was very courageous, but it had to be done. Alex Rodriguez was in the slump of his career batting 1-14 in the postseason and had his mind running through different thoughts that were effecting his game. The mental side of baseball did not seem to effect Ibanez while in his calling, he managed to pull out the possible hidden potential that had been locked within him. I believe that this courage, pride, and trust presented by the Yankee organization and Raul Ibanez should be taken note of throughout the baseball world. If you were a baseball player, you would be able to picture being in this situation, but the amount of stress put upon you is truly unimaginable. In order to overcome this you need courage, discipline, and most importantly be able to believe in yourself as not only a hitter, but as a miracle worker. Even with the circumstances that were given, he was still able to do what he needed to do.
My Question: When you are in a stressful situation in sports or school, what do you do to calm yourself down in order to do what needs to be done.
http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=321010110
Tyler occasionally stopped and stuttered but overall did incredibly well.
ReplyDeleteThe content looks good. He has a good summary and his response was full of great observations and personal wisdoms.
I just like to realize what needs to be done and push through until I've done it.
Your presentation was pretty swell and I think that speaking wise there wasn't a flaw. The content was also swell because you gave us exactly what happened. As for me I calm myself down by just focusing or listening to music.
ReplyDelete-you said "uh" and "um" and "yeah" and "so" a couple of times
ReplyDelete-you paused a lot and it kind of wants me to read it because it seems you skipped a lot of stuff.
+great eye contact and speaking skill
Question: I would take a deep breath and go into my happy place for a couple of seconds and then ill be calm again
1) you had a very good presentation you had a very good way of making eye contact with the class.
ReplyDelete2) the content of your article was very good as well because it is a very talked about topic for the past few days in the sports world.
3) when i am in a stress full situation in sports or school i try to just sit down and get something to eat or when im playing sports i just think on the fly and do what comes naturally to me
Writinng: I thought the writing was really good and i really liked the topic. I liked how you wrote about that you thought the coaches did what needed to be done.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking: It was really good speaking you said "em" once or twice but besides that you did good with looking forward not swaying and being clear.
Question: When im in a stressful situation i just tell myself that i can do it
1)Speaking
ReplyDeleteYou were good and was loud
You look around a lot and at the screen
2)Content
Your content was really good and there were many details in it
3)Question
I listen to music and and in sport i go back out and try harder
You had a good tone. You weren't quiet, but you weren't loud. The content of your summary and response was good as well but your response was short. When I stress about sports or school, I take a step back from whatever I'm playing or doing, and I take a deep breath. Remembering that I am here to play or do something for a reason and what needs to be done, I need to make it happen.
ReplyDeleteTyler you sounded dull. I could still hear you. You said uhh a couple of times.
ReplyDeleteYou did well on your content. You supported you main points.
my answer to the question is that I breath in and out a few times then start working.
Good speaking skills. Didn't see the note cards a lot but did turn to the screen. Hesitated a little but not a lot. Good eye contacts too. So great work. For the content you seem to know about it on top of your head since you don't really need to read it from your note cards so that's a good job.
ReplyDeleteFor your question, usually if I'm at school and I have off hour I try to listen to music and get whatever the stuffs in my head that's making me stressful out. Or I try to text one of my friends to calmed me down. If I'm at a class I try to take it easy.
Speaking skills: You sounded really confident when you were speaking. You talked clearly and spoke at a nice pace.
ReplyDeleteContent: I could understand what you were saying. You didn't move around, which was good. I noticed that your hands were shaking a little, but that's ok too.
Answer: I listen to music and that really helps for me.
You spoke loud enough and fluently so the presentation flowed really well. You had a good summery and i could tell what the article was about but I felt that there wasn't really a response. I think about what I want to happen then focus on making it happen.
ReplyDeleteYou said "um" a lot and looked at the board a lot. You also did a good job making eye contact and talking loud so everyone could here you. You paused a couple of times and played with your paper at the begging which was very distracting. The content of your presentation was good. The only thing I noticed was that it was choppy and didn't flow together. The answer to your question is I calm my self down by being confident and thinking I am going to succeed.
ReplyDeleteTyler gave a very confident presentation. He spoke clearly. He knew what he was going to say and did not need to look at his note cards much.
ReplyDeleteThe actual summary was outstanding. He gave a very good description of the game. He included all details. His opinion had some very good values. He spoke of have courage.
In stressful situations, I listen to music. I will also drum some times to helps calm my self.
You had a really good volume and you made good eye contact with the audience. You made it easy for the audience to understand what you were talking about by not mumbling and speaking loudly.
ReplyDeleteYour presentation was very good and your summary and response were good lengths. You did a good job of explaining what happened in the article and why it was significant.
When I am in a stressful situation, I usually have a routine or a pattern that helps me to stay calm. At school, I figure out what I need to do, organize it, then do things the same way each time so I don't get confused or stressed out.
Good job overall! Your speaking skills were good because you were loud and clear and everyone could understand you, but you said "um" a few times. You didn't seem to have to look at your notes that much. You did look back at the screen a lot though but that's the only thing you really need to work on. The content of your presentation was also good because I don't follow sports but I could tell what the main idea was about just from listening to your presentation. You had your opinion in there also so I could understand that. To answer your question: When I am in a stressful situation, I try to focus on whatever I am doing as much as possible so I am not thinking about anything else but what I need to do.
ReplyDeleteI THOUGHT YOUR VOLUME WAS GOOD, YOU DIDN'T GO TO FAST, AND YOU MADE YOUR POINT.
ReplyDeleteYOU MADE A GOOD PRESINTATIONS WITH DETAILS OF THE GAME CLEARLY STATED, YOU ALSO STATED A GOOD OPINION. AND I LIKKE YOUR QUESTION.
I TAKE DEAP BREATHES, AND IN SPORTS I JUST TRY TO GET PUMPED UP.
You had good speaking skills you were loud enough and spoke slow enough to follow what you were saying. You made great eye contact but you looked up at the board quit a bit.
ReplyDeleteIt was organized and explained your opinion on it.
When I'm in a stressful situation what I do to calm myself down is to stay away from what I'm stressed about for awhile then when I'm calmed down I go back to it.
You had a really good presentation and made it longer than the other ones which is good. Also you looked at the crowd a lot and used confidence to power through. You spoke loud and had good posture. The only bad thing is that you kept looking at the screen and not at you're paper. Also don't fig-it with the paper in your hands next time.
ReplyDeleteWhen I am in a stressful situation I tend to just take deep breathes and not think about it but of something else that made me happy in life.
1) you sounded confident you didn't rush and it was easy to hear you but you also kept looking back at your PLN on the screen instead of looking on your note cards
ReplyDelete2)the info was good and to the point I have no real complaints
3) I kinda jest try to forget about it and calm my self down
That was a pretty good presentation, especially because it's about the Yankees. But yeah you spoke unclearly at times and would say "um." But you made eye contact and you didn't go too fast. It was a pretty good presentation. But you would sometimes at the board. Good presentation though.
ReplyDeletemy answer to your question: When i'm in a stressful situation in sports, I just say a quick prayer, and go in there and do what needs to be done.
1) Speaking: Loud enough but there were a couple of pauses in between but overall great speaking.
ReplyDelete2) Content: Good content, it was descriptive. I forgot to watch the game but thanks for informing me.
3) Answer: To calm myself down I just don't think about it.
Great job! I think you did a great job at being loud enough so all of us in the back could hear. You did a great job with speaker skills, using note cards and making eye contact often enough. The length was a bit short, and even that was not too bad. If you made it about 30 seconds longer then it would have been perfect. Great job on your question and sparking discussion!
ReplyDeleteQuestion- When I am playing sports, I calm myself by breathing deeply and doing stuff repeatedly, such as practice warm ups.
Speaking Skills: Great volume but you stuttered a lot and look at the screen frequently. You didn't seem completely prepared and your thoughts were jumping around the the topic. I just recommend to stay calm, plan your speech and look at the audience more. Great job.
ReplyDeleteContent: Your content was great and you were able to summarize the article very well as your opinion paragraph was also great. You could have made it a little longer but I, as a listener, was able to get the whole idea of the article.
Question: I always just remember that how ever much I mess up, it doesn't matter.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! yankees suck!
ReplyDeletenot taking the yankees into consideration, the presentation was ok. you weren't quite loud enough, and you didn't sound very confident, you also paused and said "um" a couple of times.
the fact that you chose the yankees made it even worse. (GO RED SOX)
